Module 1: Teaching and Learning with Guided Induction

Objectives

  • Demonstrate the usefulness of guided induction as an addition to popular teaching methods
  • Show examples of guided induction as an effective method of incorporating authentic data in classroom instruction and improving learning outcomes.

Module 2: Teaching Interactional Competence

Objectives

  • Demonstrate the relevance of teaching interactional competence to develop communicative abilities in a second language
  • Describe and showcase actual lesson plans and classroom activities to develop interactional competence

Module 3: Finding and Using Authentic Data

Objectives

  • Illustrate the importance of using authentic data as input in the classroom
  • Describe ways to collect/find databases with authentic data to use in activities
  • Describe actual lesson plans and classroom activities that incorporate authentic data

Module 4: Interactional Competence and Curriculum Design

Objectives

  • Demonstrate and discuss ways of incorporating interactional competence into existing syllabi and curricula
  • Showcase practical options for including the teaching and testing of interactional competence in learning goals and course plans
